Toyota files for Land Cruiser FJ trademark

Ooooh, this is a good one.

We're learning today that Toyota filed a trademark for the name "Land Cruiser FJ" just over a week ago in Japan.

You can see in the link that it applies to a vehicle and since we saw at the Japan Mobility Show that the Land Hopper trademark is being used on that weird bike thingy, it's feeling pretty safe to assume they're intending to use this for the retro-looking small off-roader they teased back at the LC 250 debut. I like the idea of reusing part of the branding from the FJ Cruiser!

I can't imagine Toyota trademarking this name and not using it in some capacity. Fingers crossed this ends up being the name of that small SUV.
Agreed. I don't know the significance of this application being filed in Japan vs. Europe or the U.S. (possibly none), but it feels like they're moving really quickly to turn Land Cruiser into a full-blown Jeep brand competitor and maybe this is their Wrangler fighter.
